Here is What We've Been up To!
Reading: This week we are working on thinking about the characters in the books that we are reading. We will be thinking about character traits but also thinking about what knowledge we can gain from the characters before reading, this might be clues in the illustrations. Our skill this week is responding to poetry, this will include sequencing, visualizing and some word word with the poems.
Writing: This week we are going to be focusing on writing about a topic that we have not yet wrote about, and staying ON TOPIC. I think ALL students have been writing about familiar characters or topics that they have already wrote about, so everyone will be accepting the challenge to write about something new. I also will be doing lots of modeling how to end a story but remain on topic, as I've noticed that stories are ending "then I went home"..."then I ate dinner." etc.
Math: We are deep into learning how to add and subtract 2 two digit numbers together. Students have picked up on this concept fairly easily, however some are still starting in the tens columns, rather than the ones column. We will continue to subtract and add 2 two digit numbers together for the rest of the week however, we will do so using story problems. Starting next week students will be practicing their timed math facts test. Look for a letter to come home about this soon!
Science/Social Studies: Students have learning about the Sun, Earth and Moon. Right now we are learning about the phases of the moon and looking at the waxing and waning moons. Coming up we will be gearing up for our Pineville International Fair, and studying about the country of Egypt.
